OPEN CALL: Production X Heimland

Cross-TIC seeks project proposals from artists who wish to create a cross-media production with the goal of engaging with a viewer in different ways, stimulating multiple senses simultaneously or even inviting participation.

The production to be made is part of Festival Heimland. This project will be produced at Werkplaats Heimland and will eventually play on June 13, 14 and 15 of this year during Festival Heimland in Diepenheim.

We cordially invite you to submit a proposal for a cross-media PRODUCTION.

Duration: early March to June 13, 14 and 15

For this trajectory, we invite makers who want to develop a production in which a live event with an audience is central, and cross-media plays an essential role. You will work on the production in Werkplaats Heimland, with the aim of performing it at Festival Heimland. Together with our partners and your coordinator, we’ll look for performance opportunities in other theatres/kulturhuzen in Twente. So the production must also be feasible in another location. Cross-TIC is looking for proposals that show quality and an innovative approach, are explicitly cross-media, and focus on research, experimentation and collaboration.

Cross-TIC is looking for artists from all professional art disciplines: film, theatre, visual arts, design, music, and performance who live and/or (want to) work in Twente.

The theme for the upcoming edition of the festival Heerlijk Heimland is “Noaberschap in Twente”.

What does noaberschap mean in modern times?

This age-old Twente concept, rooted in connectedness, mutual care and community spirit, is the inspiration for artistic research and a philosophical and social exploration for the upcoming festival Heimland 2024. What is the value of noaberschap in a time of increasing individualization and polarization?

This Cross-TIC production is in collaboration with the “Stichting Heerlijk Heimland” associated with one of Cross-TIC’s core partners.

Through art and culture, the Stichting Heerlijk Heimland in Diepenheim questions current social issues in an increasingly polarized society. The focus in both the 3-day festival Heimland and the workshop Heimland is on performing arts. It offers interdisciplinary makers a Workshop in which experimentation and personal reflection on contemporary themes are central. The specific and unique Twente environment does something to the theater maker and vice versa.

This foundation has two main activities:

  • Operation and development of Workshop Heimland.
  • Organization of the Festival Heimland.

A project plan containing:

  • What you want to do and why and how the project relates to the Theme Noaberschap in Twente (concept);
  • How your plan relates to your existing practice as an artists or maker (cause and urgency);
  • In what way you will carry out your project (elaboration and planning);
  • What outside expertise would you like to seek and with whom you might want to conduct your project;
  • Your link to Twente.

You will also participate in:

  • Up to 2 presentations on your project to partners and stakeholders;
  • Support in developing your entrepreneurship in the form of participation in Community of Practice sessions (approximately 12 hours).
  • A workplace in the Heimland Workshop.
  • A presentation spot during the Festival Heimland.
  • In this production track, you will be given up to 500 hours (€40.55 per hour). These hours are to be divided among your team of makers (if any). Think of you as the maker, one or more actors, a musician or other professional collaboration partners. In addition, there is a production budget of up to €5500.
  • You will be artistically and substantively guided and supported in your process by a trajectory coordinator and experts, who will provide you with feedback and connect you with relevant research and performance partners.
  • External expertise: there is a budget to call in external expertise (in consultation with the trajectory coordinator) in your desired field.
  • A new network: as a maker within Cross-TIC, you will become part of a new regional, cross-discipline network of makers and get to know the cultural institutions and partners in Twente.

Cross-TIC was developed by the Twente Culture Region: 14 Twente municipalities working together in the field of culture. In consultation with the cultural field, they developed a vision for culture in the region. Based on that vision, Cross-TIC was set up by Library Almelo & Theater Hof 88, Werkplaats Diepenheim, Oyfo, PLANETART, Schouwburg Hengelo, Theater Sonnevanck, Stichting Oldenzaalse Musea, Tetem and Concordia (penman).
